The key to solving the Marquis's “curse” is an orphaned maid. Laura Riddle has been treated like a servant by her aunt and uncle, a baroness, since her mother died shortly after her birth. One night, while out shopping on her aunt's orders, Laura rescues a boy who is about to be kidnapped. The boy seems to be related to the Marquess of Dunford, a family famous for their misanthropy.
